Remembering Maurice Rimpo February 2001 Cambridge and Dorchester County lost one of its finest citizens this week with the passing of Maurice Rimpo, former editor of The Daily Banner. He had a tremendous influence over the thinking in the Dorchester community for the 33 or more years he served as The Daily Banner's editor. Always calm, compassionate and thoughtful, Rimp had a way of making his point without having you feel you had been forced to agree with him. A more modest man you will never find. While he had a brilliant mind, he would go to great lengths to conceal that fact. Indeed he would strive to convince you he was just an ordinary person. He was not. He was an exceptional person. I never met a man I admired more. He was my friend, and I will miss him. No phrase could be more appropriate to describe Maurice Rimpo than that timeworn one, "a scholar and a gentleman."
